It's amazing that so much money, time and effort was spent on various aspects of HIV at the Rome Conference but so little was uttered about research studies that showed how various drugs were actually improving patient outcomes, not mere surrogate markers.

I participated in the IAS in Rome as a medical specialist from Austria. To date, however, I have not received my participation in activities. Since I submit the certificate but with my employer must, I beg you to kindly send me the confirmation.

How many of the 3,552 abstracts submitted made it into oral sessions, and how many into posters? How many were rejected?

"Special sessions, bridging sessions and symposia sessions will examine an array of cross-cutting topics focused on some of the most important challenges confronting the global response. In the symposium Impact of the Economic Crisis on HIV Programmes: Is Integration of Services and Research the Solution?, Ambassador Eric Goosby, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, and Dr. Mario Raviglione, Director of the World Health Organization’s Stop TB Department, will discuss the integration of HIV programmes with other health and Millennium Development Goal-related programmes and the further scale up of resources as strategies for reaching universal access by 2015. Dr. Anthony Fauci of the U.S. National Institutes of Health will participate in a special session on The Advancement of Science and Research on HIV. Another special session will focus on Immune Activation/Inflammation and HIV Disease. Among the topics to be addressed in bridging sessions are HIV co-infections with hepatitis C, malaria and tuberculosis, and the challenges and controversies related to the use of antivirals in HIV prevention.
